We are so glad you’re here! We are going to have so much fun this week. Please check back with us each day of the week for a fun, easy and free quilt pattern delivered to you in daily doses, as well as some incredible giveaways and other fun surprises. Now, let’s get started!
This year’s Back to School pattern is named Village Square and was designed by Melissa Corry. It makes a great scrap quilt and is perfect for using assorted lights, mediums and darks to bust your stash. Each day of the party, we’ll give you another part of the Village Square pattern. We also have a fabulous trio of Back to School Party reader-quilters (and real-life quilting pals!) who will share their own versions of the quilt to inspire you. We invite you to sew along this week, and we’d love to see your progress as well. To share your versions, post your in-progess or finished photos on your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts and use the hashtag #qmbacktoschool15

Now, we shared the materials list and yardage requirements for Village Square in last week’s Back to School Party preparations post, but we’ll recap that here for those of you who are just joining us. This materials list is keyed to the gray-scale quilt diagram above.
Be sure to also download our handy fabric chart to help you plan your own quilt! This pattern lends itself to a lot of color schemes, and keep in mind you can always reverse the light and dark values. Now that everyone’s caught up, here are cutting directions:
We’ll be back tomorrow with instructions for making the quilt blocks. We’ll also introduce you to one of our Back to School reader-quilters and share her version of Village Square. Our Back to School team this years consists of Amy Hering, Cindy Tiberio and Sonja Zastrow. They are real-life friends who, despite living on opposite ends of the country, meet up annually for a fun quilting retreat. At this year’s retreat, they all worked on their Village Square quilts. What fun! Here’s a little sneak peek at the versions they made:
